PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Grow as a worship leader, pastor and potential church planter
- The focus of a residency at The Commons is development for the purpose of mobilizing you for long-term ministry. This is a full-time job that will carry real leadership and responsibility, but all of it is targeted toward your development.
- Part of your residency will include a regular meeting cadence with the Worship Director as well as the Lead Pastor
- Cultivate and Build on our Worship Culture
- Work with the Worship Director and other worship leaders on our team to help create, execute, and maintain the vision for our worship culture.
- Help cultivate worship gatherings that exalt Jesus, engage our people (we want them to sing!), follow the leadership of the Spirit, and aim for excellence.
- Lead your teams to set goals that will help us grow in the way we worship as a church
- Be creative w/special events, service design, holidays, stage design, song selection and song writing (yes, song writing!)
- Help care for and shepherd worship and production volunteers and work to create comradery and community among team members
- Model a heart of worship, be led by the Spirit of God, be Gospel-centered and theologically accurate, execute all musical and technical elements with excellence, and be authentic.
- Raise Up and Empower New Leaders
- Though you will function as one of the primary worship leaders for our weekend services and/or Salt Company, one of the key responsibilities of this role is to raise up new leaders for our worship teams and production team and empower them to lead. We have a culture of leading in plurality, we’re in a college town (aka. a hub for up and coming leaders), and we’re a sending church! Raising up and empowering new leaders is mission critical.
- Work with the Worship Director to execute the systems and processes that are part of our pipeline for developing the next wave of worship and production leaders. This includes developing them in both their competency (skill) and their character (heart).
- Help Execute, Lead and Give Oversight to our Worship Services (Sundays & Salt Company)
- Work with the Worship Director to plan and execute our different worship gatherings. This includes set planning, scheduling teams, communicating with teams, rehearsals, and evaluating these worship gatherings on the back end.
- This will also include training and becoming proficient on tech and production
- Support and Resource other ministries in our church
- Give support to and resource the music and production needs of other ministries in our church (ie. The Commons Youth, The Commons Kids, special events, etc…)
OTHER DUTIES:
All staff members are expected to model flexibility and a willingness to take part in church activities and initiatives that may be outside of their normal day-to-day responsibilities and to model servant leadership in their position at all times.
SUMMARY:
The Worship Resident will work with our Worship Director to help shepherd our church and its various ministries by using your worship leadership gifts and your heart for discipleship to lead our worship gatherings and to develop and empower people in our church to use their gifts in leading worship. All of this will be undertaken while developing your gifts and abilities in order to mobilize you for long-term ministry.
CHARACTER:
The successful candidate will have a healthy, vibrant walk with God, will already be actively involved in the leadership of the church, and will be committed to being in authentic gospel community. Their lifestyle will be marked by being a servant leader, generous with their money, time and giftings, joy and love for spending time with the Lord. A growing desire to shepherd others in their relationship with the Lord and to raise up leaders is necessary. They will be people of integrity in all areas of life! This person must be hungry and humble!
COMPETENCY:
The leadership competencies required: team building, vision-casting and training leaders for ministry; ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment; growing working knowledge of the Bible; tactical thinker with ability to equip leaders and organize functional structures; able to connect multi-generationally; proven to be skilled and strong enough musically and vocally to not only lead the church in worship but to be able to lead volunteers and other staff to grow in their musicianship.

- Currently serving, leading and tithing at your local church
- Proven ministry experience
- Desire for seminary training (seminary is included as a benefit of this residency)
